Taikor of The Month

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary

DRB HICOM

Our taikor of this month makes a return and is again in the controlling seat of Malaysia's automobile industry. He alone (or is he?) will determine where Proton goes, North or South?

1MDB Proceeds with Vendor selection, now identifying contractors

Since the announcement of the KLIFD as well as the Bandar 1Malaysia project, 1Malaysia Development Berhad has come under severe criticisms. Much of it has been unfounded, if not all.

Recently, 1MDB had published their consultant list and is currently undergoing vendor selection for their KLIFD project.

Below is the list as published in their website for all to see.

KLIFD: Consultants

  1. Masterplanner : Akitek Jururancang (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd
  2. Masterplanner : Machado Silvetti and Associates (USA)
  3. Infrastructure Engineers: EDP Consulting Group Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and Buro Happold Consulting Engineers (UK & USA)
  4. Traffic Management Consultant: Perunding Trafik Klasik Sdn Bhd (Malaysia)
  5. Quantity Surveyor: Perunding NFL Sdn Bhd (Malaysia)
  6. Landscape Architect: Akitek Jururancang Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and Grant Associates (UK)
  7. Land Surveyor:  Jurukur Perpaduan Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and Jurukur ESA Sdn Bhd (Malaysia)
  8. Security & Risks Engineers: ARUP Jururunding Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and ARUP Group International (Hong Kong)
  9. Sustainability Consultant: Buro Happold Consulting Engineers (UK & USA)
  10. Program  Management Advisor: KEO International Consultants (Qatar)

The question to its detractors should now be what next?

The fact that 1MDB had complied and implemented corporate best practises is evident that those responsible for it are serious about the ETP that the government is espousing.

Next up is the shortlisting of contractors, expected to close on 16th of February 2012

The fact that there are still many people out there who are 'doubting Thomases'' speak volumes of what kinds of
hurdles 1MDB has to go through. From instances where MPs like Tony Pua making wrongful statements to accusations like this.

Perhaps its time to accept the fact that all this while, 1MDB has been used as the punching bag once too often.
